Bioethics and diversity: health conditions among the adult homeless population in the Federal District

ABSTRACT

This survey was carried out among 20 homeless people living in the Pilot Plan, Brasília, identifying their social and epidemiological profile, as well as their access to health care services. The aim of our work was to provide visibility to this segment of the population, which has been historically excluded from the benefits provided by the State, as well as the bio-psycho-social dimension of the lives of homeless individuals. This paper also aimed to expose, from the perspective of Bioethics, the persistent vulnerability faced by the homeless, the consequence of discriminatory and excluding processes that violate human rights. The survey has confirmed the heterogeneity of this population segment, the majority of which lives with their families andas a community, a finding that must be considered in the design of inclusive and effective programs and actions for this population.
