The interaction between the evaluation and the work of Community Health Workers: subsidies for thinking about the educational work

The study discusses the effects produced by the health evaluation pratices on the Community Health Worker's CHW's action. We take the assessment as a management technology that works on the construction of realities by establish value on the actions. Methodology: we adopted the ethnography benchmarks. In the field, conducted at a family clinic in Rio de Janeiro, we combined the examination of documents with participant observation and interviews. Our analysis allows us to point out that the cohesion produced by the primary health care policy, the priorities set based on quantitative indicators, and the practices carried out at the health unit have potentiated actions focused on disease control. With regard to the work of the CHAs, its process is configured under a simplifying view of health education. Such slope is strengthened by a management approach that is based on goals and by evaluation limited to monitoring, which has a limited contribution to facing the challenges of educational work.
