This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach related to concerning the composition and management of the workforce in Primary Care of the State of Paraná - Brasil. Data were collected from the Census of Primary Care and from external evaluation of the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care (PMAQ-AB), between July and September 2012. It stands out in the census, the prevalence (59.9%) of workers whose training requirement is the elementary or middle school. Among those with higher education, who participated in the external evaluation, 76% of it have five years or less in primary care; 82, 7% of respondents have joined the basic health care through public tender; the use of distance learning mechanisms is almost null, highlighting the need to priorize actions aimed at strengthening the politics of work management and education in health.s
