ABSTRACT

The current study is an experience report on the psychiatric reform process in the scenario of Brazil's Northeast, in the city of Sobral, Ceará, Brazil, through the closing of the psychiatric hospital 'Casa de Repouso Guararapes', in July 2000, and the implantation of an Integrated Care Network for Mental Health, that is characterized by quality and humanized care, having care integrality as its horizon of work. It addresses important challenges, like social enabling for monitored patients; broadening mental health actions in primary care; and permanent education for health workers.
