The subject of this work is focused in the figure of the mediator as part of the conflicts among families in rural areas. Precisely we analyze a Comissão Parlamentar de Inquérito (CPI), which worked as a mediator in the construction of a peace agreement in the hinterland of Pernambuco. Based on document analysis and field research, we sought to show that the episode, which lasted for months in complex negotiations and provisory statements, permits two ways to justice: law application and the demoralization of the opponent.
