The Construction of the Femable Subject in Georg Simmel

Abstract

Georg Simmel was one of the first teachers in Berlin to admit women to his classes and seminars. In his theory of modernity, he adopts the perspective of the individual inserted in an objective culture, typical of monetary economics, and in a subjective culture. Interrelated realities. The concepts of objective culture and subjective culture are the ones that oriented of his work as ideal types, to analyze the different impact of the philosophy of money between the sexes. In seeking to focus on the singular and historical subject, Simmel differentiates male and female in culture, not in being individual and unique. This article discusses the construction of the female subject in Simmel within the scope of a sociology of culture.
