Abstract
This article analyses the importance of preserving the protected area designated as the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, in the State of Goiás, both from the international perspective, as it is part of Unesco’s World Heritage, and by its biodiversity. The methodology adopted concerns documental and bibliographical analysis, focused on the environmental relevance of the area, also comprehending national and international documents that emphasize the events following its creation and the period when the World Heritage title was jeopardized. Reaching the results demanded a case study strategy, with a qualitative approach, descriptive and exploratory objectives, by means of bibliographical (books, thesis, dissertations and scientific articles) and documental (analysis of international norms, laws, decrees, acts, resolutions, statutes and projects related to the Park) research. At the end, considerations are presented showing that this heritage is still endangered and that reinforcing the strategic management, by inter-federative and multi-level governance, given by the local-to-global interaction, aiming at sustainable development, is of utmost need.
