On performance and performativity: gender, youth and female seduction

This article analyzes seduction practices by young heterosexual middle and upper-middle class women from the city of Córdoba, Argentina. Interviewees were 19 to 30 years old university students or recent graduates at the time of the interviews in 2009 and 2010. Seduction practices are studied as 'social performances' and 'conventionalized behavior'. Seduction is analyzed in the light of its performatic and performative dimension, by analyzing the aesthetics of bodily manners, and the illocutionary effects of saying/doing in the context of seduction. In conclusion, subjective trajectories framed by these particular experiences are outlined.
