Navigating Grindr between curricula of possibilities and limits: the pedagogy of health in times of the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

The study aims to analyze how and to what extent Grindr, in different cultural media artifacts, exercised a health pedagogy during and after the pandemic, in order to discuss and analyze the production of different curricula and their intersections, highlighting the relevance of the pandemic scenario and some governmental issues as important factors in the constitution of individual and collective dynamics, social, political and health contexts. To achieve this, by utilizing the perspectives of Cultural Studies and the concept of Cultural Pedagogies, we analyze the broad pedagogical processes arising from circulating productions on Grindr’s official platforms. Therefore, to comprehend the strategic functions of these cultural artifacts, in addition to the dating app, we examined not only the dating app but also the Grindr website, as well as its profiles on the social networks Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, from which we produced a pedagogy of health reading with curricula of possibilities and limits that conduct practices, communicate behaviors, educate social subjects, and produce diverse subjectivities.
