The aim of this paper is to analyze to what extent the Dependency Theory is able to clarify the discussion on the labor market in underdeveloped countries, especially those of Latin America. First, the article addresses the classic discussion on development and underdevelopment, based on the center-periphery vision. Next, the author presents the key aspects of Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Enzo Faletto's contribution to Dependency Theory, in contrast with that of Ruy Mauro Marini. The article then discusses the impacts of globalization on labor markets in peripheral countries like Brazil, and considers the possibilities for the Dependency Theory to clarify important aspects of this reality.
