Michel Maffesoli and the definitions of contemporariness

Abstract

This review analyzes the work Être postmoderne, by sociologist Michel Maffesoli, published by Éditions du Cerf (Paris) and still without translation into Portuguese. Throughout the book, the author reaffirms, as well as in previous works, that we are living in a moment of saturation of modern values and the emergence of post-modern values. Étre Postmoderne is divided into nine chapters: 1. L’Oxymore; 2. Juvenoïa; 3. Métapolitique; 4. Sacral; 5. Nous; 6. Initiation; 7. Tradition; 8. Naturalisme; 9. Épinoïa. Reading the work encourages us to think about various questions about the values that govern everyday life today. Thus, this text examines, without losing sight of the debate with its critics, the main aspects discussed throughout the text.
