Abstract
In this review, I analyze Ian Merkel’s contributions to studies on the production and circulation of intellectuals, ideas and cultural products in his book Terms of Exchange: Brazilian intellectuals and French social sciences. I point out that the book’s arguments fit into a new theoretical perspective of analysis on the cultural and political relations between center and periphery derived from contemporary sociological theory, in addition to mentioning the contributions to the field of Brazilian social thought.
