This article seeks to reconstruct the history of the Survey of Living Conditions (PCV), a socio-economic study based on the sampling of households, created by Fundação Seade in the late 1980s. Using official publications that constitute the technical memory of the PCV, an attempt is made to highlight the relative importance of this survey in the recent institutional development of Fundação Seade.
