This article aims to discuss from an anthropological perspective the language of symbols among Bolivian immigrants in São Paulo. It attempts to grasp the meaning that some cultural pratices presented in the context of devotional celebrations acquire in the new country. In the case under analysis, the context presents a specific challenge _ as they have to face racial and social discrimination. That is why these immigrants are now engaged in showing a new image of themselves to Brazilian society.
