Models ant the pragmatic of investigation

This paper propounds an alternative view to the semantic approach in the interpretation of scientific theories that stems from an analysis of many conceptions of model found in the related literature. Supporters of the semantic view interpret scientific theories as families of models. The term "model" is not clearly and univocally defined by them, but apparently their view resembles the logicians' and philosophers' one, according to which a model is a set-theoretic structure that allows one to interpret a given language. An alternative notion of model is here introduced; a model is an abstract entity or possible context to which a number of laws apply directly and exactly. In this sense, "model" is given a meaning related to both common sense and the sense in which, apparently, scientists use the term.
