I propose to offer an elucidation of the expression "scientific realism". I will proceed in two steps. In the first I will offer an a priori elucidation, in which I will state that there are two basic thesis envolved in the realist approach, but that only one is discussed. In the second step I will propose a definitional scheme that accounts for the great variety of senses of "scientific realism". In a future paper I will try to offer a general account of this great diversity of senses.
