Towards a new history of social policies: a genealogy rooted in Soviet socialism

Abstract:

This article aims to challenge interpretations of the genesis of social welfare that focus solely on Anglo-European experiences, while downplaying the contributions of social protection models outside Western capitalism. Through historiography, we explore the direct and indirect influences of Soviet socialism on the legal frameworks and social protection schemes in the West. We conclude that Soviet socialism played a decisive role in the emergence and expansion of social policies worldwide.
