Federal financing of CAPS in Brazil: Pandora’s box

Abstract:

This paper analyze the federal financing of Psychosocial Care Centers in Brazil between 2008 and 2023, reflecting on how federal financing contributes to the expansion and maintenance of these devices. This is documentary research using the database of the IT Department of the Brazilian Unified Health System, as well as information obtained through the Electronic System of the Citizen Information Service. For analysis, descriptive statistics were used with a measure of central tendency. The gradual expansion of CAPS during the period was identified, but only 85% of that were authorized by the Ministry of Health.
