A life told, a life lived: racism and psychic suffering

Abstract:

This paper aimed to investigate black people’s experiences regarding racism and psychic suffering. Qualitative research, in which 9 interviews were conducted. Analyzed from a phenomenological perspective. The results show the difficult art of being black; humiliation and silencing; depression. From an analytical perspective, the black socio-historical reality produces psychic suffering and at the same time the need to break its silencing and strengthen the black identity.
