This article deals with the controversies and contradictions that have followed the discussions about the scientific character in the field of Social Sciences and its paradigmatic controversies in order to think about the social reality. It supports the idea of the becoming, the historicity and the ideological nature of the process of knowledge, as well as the absence of a single scientific method. It emphasizes the relationship between subject and object in the process of objectification of knowledge and the link with the empirical, having in mind that objectivity is the utopia of Science. Finally, it stresses the requirements of the scientific method in relation to the constitution of flexible and rigorous methods that consider the dynamics and the temporary character of the material and symbolic reality.
