The hospital environment continues to be the space/scenario of risk for hospital infections. This article presents part of a study that identified the educative processes of work and the processes of infection control of hospitals of the SESSC, as well as part of the ideas raised as a result of the work learning process, together with a group of professionals who work in the CCIH. The data reaffirm the need for further professional training for health care workers in order to establish processes for construction of the institutional competences necessary for new work process models of continuous learning, for the generation of knowledge and practices that promote safety and attention to health in face of the risks for infection. The article concludes by presenting a proposal for an organizational model of knowledge production for the advance of the improvement of practices that minimize the risks of hospital infection, promoting a healthier and safer work environment, characterized as an incubator of learning technologies and knowledge management in health care. The proposal is supported by the premise that one can create knowledge and solutions for the improvement of health care from a nucleus inductor or incubator. The article reaffirms that control of infections demands diverse measures, among which are the promotion of professional competence through continuous learning on the job
