Self-care in the living process: nurses share their conceptions and living experiences in their professional trajectory

Based on the assumption that despite contributions offered by Brazilian academic nurses related to self-care, little has been done in order to improve the human living process; the authors describe the trajectory in the development of their conceptions regarding self-care and illustrate them with their living experiences. Further, by using a framework they analyze the trajectory pursued by both, and synthesize their reflections regarding the living process as follows: initial acceptance of the health care system prevailing in the world of work; reflections and analysis about their viewpoint according to the situations that were experienced; and search for alternatives to improve the living process, emphasizing the contribution offered by the process of self-knowledge as a facilitator and stimulator in the decisions for assuming new roles, responsibilities, and commitments towards the transformation of society. Finally, they present their questions, hoping to open a wider debate regarding self-care in the living process.
