The pictorial ethnographic approachn for the evalution of the health and nursing service

The anthropological approach and the pictorial ethnography allow the professionals who work in the health and nursing services to have a better understanding of the phenomenon related to health-disease, which permits the effective assistance to meet the users' needs and expectations. The aim of this study was to understand the pregnant women's experience concerning their contact with the maternal-infantile health service before labor. It is a qualitative research developed in the School Hospital of USP. The participants were six pregnant women who used the hospital services and the data were collected through interviews and photos taken by the participants. The data were categorized according to Janesick's proposal and interpreted based on donabedian's model. The results showed that the visual language provides a better understanding of the cultural meanings and, in this way, it improves the health assistance given to the users and the evaluation of health services.
