This study deals with a theoretical reflection about ethics in Nursing and in Health Care, looking to contribute subsidies to the construction of a new ethics in this profession. It points out the limitations of deodontological ethics and the challenges for the construction of an ethics of responsibility. It discusses the commitment and the social responsibility of health care professionals, especially in Nursing, arguing that nursing care needs to and must construct itself within an ethical conduct. It also points out the limitations of teaching ethics in health care, identifying the necessary commitments to overcome such limitations, having seen the complexity of the ethical questions which currently face health care and nursing professionals.
