Contributions of the pan-american colloquies to nursing investigation: period 2000-2006

The intention of this paper was to determine advances in the investigative process presented to the Pan American Colloquies to Nursing Investigation, identifying the areas that have had greater and lesser development, showing tendencies and giving outlines for future development. This quantitative, descriptive, documentary research. The memories of the Pan-American Colloquies to Nursing Investigation from 2000-2006 were analyzed. The results showed that the amount of investigations is increasing, with Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia as leading countries. The themes are most highlighted in Public Health, Human Care, Education, and Human Resources. Quantitative and descriptive research prevails. The majority of these are carried out in hospital centers, developed by the educational group, which shows a concern for professional practice. One can conclude that there is a tendency for growth in number of studies, pointing out the necessity for deepening the types of work in order to direct towards the construction of theories that contribute to care.
