Contributions of education to the development of competencies in the area of rehabilitative nursing

This study aims to identify the contributions of nurses' formal education in general nursing and rehabilitation specialisation to the development of clinical care practices. The methodological process of the research is steeped in a quantitative and exploratory paradigm and data were collected using a questionnaire, answered by 39 nurses working in health institutions located in Porto, Portugal. The results highlight "strong contribution" and "reasonable contribution" as the more important in all variables and in both groups; the contributions emphasised for general nurses competencies were "elaborating" and "applying projects" and for the specialist nurses were "conceptualizing", "applying", "planning", "promoting reflection", and "elaborating projects". In summary, we can observe that specialist nurses refer greater contributions of specialisation course for all the care competencies compared general nurses group, but on the other hand, we can not consider that general nurses don't have contributions for the reflexion/action in other competencies.
