The purpose of this study is to give a general overview of existing studies concerning the life process of a person with a stoma. For such, a literature review was carried out with a special emphasis on physiological, psycho-emotional, and social alterations that occur after surgery; in which it is essential that the person reorganizes themselves in order to keep their integrity. Family support and personalized professional health care are indispensable for the person’s adaptation to his/her new condition.
