This is a qualitative study that works with Symbolic Interactions. Its principle goal is to understand how the grandparent's life within the practice of maternal Breast-feeding. The data was collected in a workshop with ten grandmothers and one grandfather. From the analysis four categories have arisen: "has a son, but not breast feeding"; "breast feeding, but has problems"; "my wife breast feeds without problems"; "don't breast feed, but help a young mother." We understand that this practice was experienced by everybody, and considered important, but the problems that happened were because of different cultures that could have been decided with the support of health care professionals and relatives, when negotiating with these different cultures. We conclude that is necessary to change, to negotiate and to rethink the culture of not suckling and having to suckle, remembering that the risks and benefits come with an express dictatorship for other cultures that are interwoven, without forgetting wanting or being able to suckle.
