Transition of the adolescent through post-partum: threats, dangers and protecting actions during the "diet" stage

Understanding adolescent mother's habits, values and myths regarding the "Diet", a term used by them to talk about postpartum in Colombia, allows providers to offer a culturally congruent health care to this group. To understand their self care belief and practices, 16 adolescent mothers were interviewed in two main cities using the miniethnography methodology. The adolescent' beliefs and practices are quite different than the ones promoted by the biomedical model regarding procreation. Maintaining hot-cold balance within the body and between the body and the enviroment is a common aspect of the adolescents'practices. Discovering the culture allows the nurses to renovate their professional practice promoting care sensibility.
