Education and mental health in the family: experience with living groups

This is a descriptive study approaching children's families of fundamental teaching, in partnership with a public school of fundamental and grade school teaching in Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. It seeks to create living groups within these families; to identify difficulties lived in the family relationships; and to know the perception and the influence of the session groups in the family dynamics. There were eight meetings in the school between April and October of 2003, with good interaction and important exchange of experience among the parents. After the meetings, some participant families were interviewed, selecting them for areas of discussion about their children's education, intra-family relationships, and reception of parents` proposal by the group in the school as contribution for the maintenance of the balance in the intra family relationships. The accomplished study evidenced, through family living groups, possibilities to offer support in mental health, propitiating improvement in the quality of interaction among their members.
