Abstract:
In the late 19th century, the German colonies in Africa came in ecological competition with local communities, which promoted not only changes in the traditional economy of various regions, but also environmental impacts. The privatization of natural resources was responsible for anthropic changes in Africa under German colonial rule, which contributed to the reduction of biodiversity in areas of plantation or extensive cattle breeding. Epidemics, “pests” and biological invasion of exotic species were some of ecological problems that will be discussed in this paper thought the environmental history approach about German colonization in Africa.
