The alliances between the Castilians and the Indian chiefs brought victories to the former, and the preservation of the estates to the latter. In order to render the administration of the New Spain feasible, the Crown acknowledged the aristocratic values and the hereditary government of the Indians in force before the conquerors had arrived. Although that strategy was applied during the first decades, the colonial administrators deposed the ancient chiefs along time, and invested new chiefs who were more in line with the interests of the Hispanic Monarchy.
