Letter-writing, in its expression of the private order of personal emotions, is a strategic space for the formulation of modernist thought. Understanding how intellectuals construct links between amorous and intellectual subjects, between dreams and watchfulness, reason and sensibility, is the objective of this paper, which seeks to analyze these topics' links with the social phenomenon of friendship. As primary research material, we examine the letters of Mário de Andrade, among other documents.
