Open-access The bloodletting art in Ancien Régime Lisbon

The blood-let played an important role in the medical practices in Early Modern Portugal. This article analyses the medicine's framework that supported its large use between the XVIth and the XVIIIth centuries, describes the so called barbers' or blood-letteres's technique and also presents their professional profile in Lisbon at the same time.
