Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of the judges of the Supreme Court of Bahia in various conflicts and in the conduct on the investigation of the “Conjuração Baiana” of 1798, highlighting the centrality of the institution in the structures and dynamics of the Portuguese Empire and its fundamental political role for the maintenance of colonial exploration in the conflictive transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth centuries.
