ABSTRACT
The Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) is a combination between Finite Elements Method (FEM) and NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines). The NURBS functionsmodel the problem domain and they define the basis of the space in which the Partial Differential Equation solution is approximated. In this article, we present the basic formulation of IGA and we discuss about the weak form of the problem. Moreover, we show numerical comparisons between the convergence of the finite elements method and the isogeometric analysis. Finally, we illustrate by an example, the advantages of modeling the domain using the NURBS functions, comparing both methods.
