Environmental scanning process in the tanneries of Mato Grosso do Sul

The aim of this paper is to report a research conducted to identify how the largest tanneries - leather industries - In Mato Grosso do Sul monitor the external environmental information of their business. This research used a descriptive and qualitative method. The three participants are responsible for 43% of the wet-blue leather production in the state. We used the environmental scanning model proposed by Davenport as support, which monitors information about consumers, suppliers, competitors, government agencies and public policies, and technologies. We found that the three tanneries monitor all the variables, although informally, at different levels of detail and use several information sources, confirming the presence of the Davenport model.
