The article discusses the open access question to digital scientific information. Conceptual aspects of open access are discussed; the major national and international movements on behalf of open access are presented; scientific research repositories based on the open access movement are identified; difficulties and trends are presented. The article concludes identifying changes in the process of scientific communication, with emphasis on the amplitude, speed and transparency in the open access of scientific information.
