TEXTUAL TRAJECTORY AND DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON THE DECRIMINALIZATION OF ABORTION IN THE SENATE

ABSTRACT

This article is dedicated to the analysis of social practices based on the discourses present in the texts that culminated in interactive public hearings in the Federal Senate on Suggestion No. 15/2014, which “provides for the decriminalization of abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy by the Unified Health System – SUS”. The corpus of this analysis is composed of the textual trajectory that led to public hearings, a process of text chaining. The analysis of social practices based on the discourses present in the texts that culminated in public hearings contributes to the understanding of legislative practices and hegemonic struggles. The study is based primarily on the assumptions of Critical Discourse Analysis and the New Literacy Studies supported by contributions from racial relations studies, especially from black feminisms. The results reveal the protagonism of language and the potential of texts to act as social agents in contexts of curtailing women’s rights to citizenship, as well as the reproductive and transformational focus of these texts on the hybridizations of current social practices.
