BLACK DIASPORA IN TRANSLATION CONTEXT: DISCUSSING THE BRAZILIAN TRANSLATION OF ANGELA DAVIS' WOMEN, RACE &amp; CLASS

ABSTRACT

This article aims to address the translation of Afro-diasporic texts in Brazil, focusing on Angela Davis' Women, Race & Class (1981), translated by Heci Regina Candiani and published by Boitempo as Mulheres, raça e classe (2016). To do so, we intend to discuss: How are the paratexts (cover, back cover, preface, footnotes, among others) constituted? What were the translation strategies adopted? What is the publisher's profile? How has the critical reception of the book been in Brazil? Therefore, to understand the context of the translation of Women, Race & Class in the Brazilian cultural scene, this study is based on Descriptive Translation Studies.
