THE TEACHING OF LITERATURE IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PEDAGOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR THE SCHOOL SUBJECTS ENGLISH AND ART

Abstract

This paper proposes and discusses a class planning for high school education that focuses on artistic-literary works, integrating the subjects of English and Art. The analysis emphasizes the need to integrate linguistic, literary, and artistic knowledge for the attribution of meaning and citizen participation in social practices mediated by such texts. Based on the Language Arts competencies proposed by the Brazilian Common Core National Standards and on the relevance of interdisciplinary teaching, the article presents teaching objectives, justifications for the selection of the proposed texts, and a sequence of activities with guidelines and suggestions for the teacher. In conclusion, the benefits of interdisciplinary teaching to promote critical and conscious experiences of aesthetic appreciation and meaningful learning of discourses involving artistic-literary works are highlighted.
