Political limits of an intellectual project for the integration of New World peoples: the First International Congress of History of the America (1922)

This paper examines the I International Congress of History of the America, promoted by Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro (Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute), in Rio de Janeiro, September, 1922, to celebrate Brazilian independence centennial one. The scientific event congregated searches from all American countries. More than to examine the Congress academic activities, the article intends to analyze its contribution to the Brazilian political efforts to approach with other nations of the continent, by means of the cultural diplomacy.
