ABSTRACT
This study focuses on the play Julho, 10!, which received an award from the Workers' Novel and Playwriting National Contest, promoted by the Labor, Industry, and Commerce Ministry in 1942. The objective is twofold. First, the study examines the specificities of the Estado Novoperiod, discussing how the historical context is transmuted into the play. Second, the paper analyzes the playJulho, 10! both as part of the popular theater tradition initiated in the 19thcentury and as a form of intervention in specific legislation themes related to social protection in the years that preceded the granting of the Consolidation of Labor Laws.
