A duras e pesadas penas: imprensa, identidade e nacionalidade no Brasil imperial

The text presents a study about the construction of the Brazilian press during the first reign. It turns throw the certification of the press as privileged space of the political fight. It analyzes the centripetal and centrifugal relationship between Bahia and Rio de Janeiro as result of the public opinion. It interprets parliamentary discussions on freedom and expression censorship. It affirms the importance of the press in the consolidation of the Brazilian national identity.
