Guerra, diplomacia e mapas: a Guerra da Sucessão Espanhola, o Tratado de Utrecht e a América portuguesa na cartografia de D'Anville

This paper analyses the connections among diplomacy, war and cartography, in the context of the War of Spanish Succession (1702-1714) and of the Utrecht Treat that solved the dispute among the European nations. The point of depart is the Carte de l'Amérique méridionale (1748), by the French geographer Jean Baptiste Bourguignon D'Anville in collaboration with the Portuguese Ambassador dom Luís da Cunha. The map was produced in order to be use in the negotiation between Portugal and Spain to establish a new frontier in South America.
