Abstract
Based on the analysis of some short stories by Alberto Rangel, in Inferno verde, by Márcio Souza, in A caligrafia de Deus, and by Milton Hatoum, in A cidade ilhada, the aim of this article is to articulate different forms of representation of Manaus and understand how the problem of urban reality can be addressed by literature. The analysis of these tales also allows us to understand how the new representations of the Amazon emerge.
