Based on systematic observation carried on on an alley in the poor Liberdade section of the city of Salvador, State of Bahia, the author wants to show how symbolic representations of the individuals about their condition and fate make sense when reported to the current organization of the poor, black families, and to the different positions that men and women occupy in such families.
