Abstract
The article problematizes the processes of attribution of value of cultural heritage to historical documents. For this, it adopts two complementary perspectives: the broad notion of research source and its constant exercise of provoking reflections, as well as highlighting practices mobilized in favor of the recognition of documentary collections as assets susceptible to patrimonialization. Based on instruments activated by the field of cultural heritage - heritage, declaration of public and social interest and registration of the Memory of the World - it is emphasized that documents can be approached from interdisciplinary perspectives. Transforming historical documentation into heritage is, therefore, a process of critical reading of the documentary collection itself.
