This text aims to show that a new kind of professionalization is still one possible path open to the middle classes in Brazil. The most important components in the concept of professionalism are the control over work, the power of defining problems and situations and the central role of education. One can find in Brazil, during the twentieth century and especially on the last decades, some indicators of this professionalization of the middle classes.
