Socio-state interactions: epistemological aspects and contributions from the Strategic-Relational Approach and the Polis Perspective

Abstract

Recently, there has been observed the sedimentation of a new research agenda in Brazil focused on the relations between the State and civil society. Against essentialists, bordering and contextualis readings, this approach, named socio-state interactions, has been assuming as an ontoepistemological perspective the argument that socio and institutional spheres are phenomena that constitutes themselves mutually. Incorporating itself within this agenda, the objective is to make progress in the perceived epistemological foundations underlying the arguments of this approach, emphasizing post-foundationalism, contingency, and highlighting its relational nature. Seeking new contributions, these objectives are explored through the discussion of two distinct intellectual traditions, the Strategic-Relational Approach (AER) and the Polis Perspective (PP). We conclude that when examined through these epistemological foundations, both approaches complement each other and provide essential elements for considering a perspective of mutual constitution.
